{"id":128,"date":"2004-09-17T11:57:05","date_gmt":"2004-09-17T15:57:05","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/lopeyland.com\/?p=128"},"modified":"2006-06-28T14:27:52","modified_gmt":"2006-06-28T18:27:52","slug":"something-strange-today","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/lopeyland.com\/?p=128","title":{"rendered":"Something strange today"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Something off topic<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>There is a picture (reproduced below) that shows a little girl crying because her Bush\/Cheney sign was ripped up at a Kerry\/Edwards rally type event.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"410\" height=\"256\" border=\"0\" alt=\"parlockatrally (20k image)\" src=\"https:\/\/lopeyland.com\/pictures\/Jacob\/parlockatrally.jpg\" \/><br \/>\n{{popup parlockatrally.jpg parlockatrally 410&#215;256}}parlockatrally<\/p>\n<p>The problem is (as was pointed out at <a href=\"http:\/\/atrios.blogspot.com\">Eschaton<\/a> today), this guy&#8217;s pulled stunts like this before:<\/p>\n<p><strong>Coinkydinks<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>There&#8217;s this guy. He&#8217;s a Republican. Amazingly, for the past three presidential elections he&#8217;s managed to convince reporters that he&#8217;s gotten attacked and gotten his signs stolen and destroyed. What are the odds?<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;m just gonna nick the whole post from <a href=\"http:\/\/rising-hegemon.blogspot.com\/2004\/09\/bogus-assault-father-freeper-of-year.html\">Rising Hegemon<\/a> to make sure everyone sees it:<\/p>\n<p>Serial Republican Victim complains for the THIRD straight presidential election of being assaulted and has his family assist.<\/p>\n<p>Unbelievable.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.herald-dispatch.com\/2004\/September\/17\/LNtop1.htm\">Here is today&#8217;s newspaper story<\/a>:<\/p>\n<p><em>A Republican family attended the rally to show support for the Bush-Cheney ticket. Phil Parlock, a Barboursville resident and strong Republican, said his family was accosted by some Kerry supporters.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>    &#8220;We do it peacefully and quietly to show respect. And, we don?t want to get kicked out of anything,&#8221; Parlock said.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>    After standing on the tarmac with the Kerry supporters, Parklock and three of his children moved down to the airport road near a parking lot exit.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>    With Parlock were sons Phil II, 21, and Alex, 11, and daughter Sophia, 3.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>    Parlock said a Kerry supporter yanked a Bush-Cheney sign out of Sophia?s hands, making her cry. As they stood along the road later, someone threw the ripped-up remains of the sign at them as they passed.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Problem is, as pointed out by some <a href=\"http:\/\/www.democraticunderground.com\/discuss\/duboard.php?az=view_all&#038;address=132x828458\">(Rezmutt) at D.U.<\/a> is he has done this before.<\/p>\n<p>Charleston (WV) Daily Mail, August 27, 1996, Page 3C<\/p>\n<p><em>Phil Parlock&#8217;s experience was less calm.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>    The Huntington man said he was knocked to the ground by a Clinton supporter when he tried to display a sign that read &#8220;Remember Vince Foster,&#8221; the deputy White House counsel who committed suicide in a Washington, D.C., park. His death has become the subject of much debate among Clinton opponents.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>    &#8220;It must have been a strict Democrat who did this,&#8221; Parlock said, feeling the red abrasions on his face. &#8220;Everyone with the exception of him was real peaceful about our protest.&#8221;<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>    Parlock said some of the crowd tried to make other anti-Clinton demonstrators feel unwelcome. He estimated that about 150 Dole supporters attended the rally, but their signs couldn&#8217;t be seen for most of the rally.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Charleston (WV) Daily Mail, October 28, 2000, pg. 1A:<\/p>\n<p><em> Phil Parlock didn&#8217;t expect to need all 12 of the Bush-Cheney signs he and his son Louis smuggled in their socks and pockets into the rally for Vice President Al Gore.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>    But each time they raised a sign, someone would grab it out of their hands, the two Huntington residents said. And sometimes it got physical.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>    &#8220;I expected some people to take our signs,&#8221; said Louis, 12. &#8220;But I did not expect people to practically attack us.&#8221;<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>    The two said they didn&#8217;t go to the Friday morning rally to start trouble.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>    &#8220;I came to support Bush and try to change some people&#8217;s minds,&#8221; Louis said. <\/em><\/p>\n<p>So, you read these stories, and you begin to wonder what&#8217;s going on. Well, check out the guy in the picture to the left of the man, the one wearing the union shirt.?
